Network-Driven Drug Discovery: An Application of In-Memory Distributed Processing

Network biology views cells as networks of interacting molecules and cellular function as an emergent properties of these networks. If healthy cellular function arises from the normal molecular interactions within the cell then disease mechanisms can be considered as emerging from collections of pathological interactions that only occur in the disease state. Network-driven drug discovery is a practical, in-silico approach to the discovery of new medicines based on the construction and analysis of network representations of disease mechanisms.

Hotel Search, Scalability, and Apache Ignite

As the use of B2B API systems grow, scaling up legacy systems to meet the increasing transaction volume eventually start hitting technical limits or becomes cost prohibitive. When the Hotel Search platforms at JacTravel was approaching these barriers, the in-memory caching and compute features in Apache Ignite were instrumental in breaking these barriers. This talk takes a quick dive into the journey building the system.

How internal query streaming allows an in-memory only database to run complex queries even when available memory is constrained

In this talk we will explain the workings of Kognitio’s query streaming feature. This is a core part of the Kognitio in-memory database server's architecture which we use to run a wide range of queries regardless of available memory, adapting its behavior based on system load and resource availability and without writing back to disk. We will use a customer use case (Inmar) to show how this allows an in-memory platform to support high performance, high concurrency, interactive retail analytics.

Designing Multi-Cluster Applications

GridGain and Apache Ignite customers follow a capability-maturity model as they become more familiarwith GridGain’s in-memory computing platform. When customers encounter the product, they often deploy it for simple caching use cases. At this simplest phase of maturity, the business case for GridGain is speed: the product is used to accelerate existing data access pipelines. But GridGain and Ignite offer customersmore than caching. And ascustomers’capability and maturity withthe product grow, they begin to use the product’s other features, like Compute Grid and Service Grid.

Distributed Database DevOps Dilemmas? Kubernetes to the rescue!

Distributed databases can make so many things easier for a developer, but not always for DevOps. Kubernetes has come to the rescue with an easy application orchestration!

It is straightforward to do the orchestration leaning on relational databases as a data layer. However, it is more difficult to do the same when a distributed SQL database or other kind of distributed storage is used instead.

In this presentation, attendees will learn how Kubernetes can orchestrate a distributed database like Apache Ignite, in particular:

Want Extreme Performance at Scale? Do Distributed the RIGHT Way!

It is well-known that distributed systems rely on horizontal scalability. The more machines in your cluster, the better performance of your application. Well, not always. While a database can provide rich capabilities to achieve lightning fast performance, it’s an engineer's responsibility to use these capabilities properly as there are many mistakes that can be made.

How to Identify the Most Appropriate In-Memory Database Solution for Computing and Application Requirements

There are plenty of inmemory distributed databases available in the market such as MemSQL , VoltDB , SAP HANA , Exasol , Apache Ignite , Altibase , Aerospike etc. Some of these fall under the NewSQL category and some of them are also NoSQL products. As there are many offerings available it is difficult for organizations to choose the right fit for their applications.
